Beta

This tool is brand new. We're looking for beta testers — try it with your real (or sample) trades, then email feedback to vtiandchill.team@gmail.com. Read about the launch on the blog.

Buy. Hold. Chill.

How did I perform vs. the market?

Upload your brokerage transactions or enter them manually. We replay every buy and sell as if the same dollars had gone into VTI on the same days — then show you the gap.

Add your transactions

Drop a CSV file, or click to browse

Robinhood, Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab — or any CSV with date, symbol, action, quantity, and price columns. Files are processed in your browser; nothing is uploaded to our servers.

Pick a pre-built portfolio to see how the comparison works.

Run the comparison

We'll fetch historical prices for each symbol and for VTI, then replay every transaction as if the same dollars had gone into VTI on that day.

How it works

  1. Parse — your CSV is read in your browser. We auto-detect Robinhood, Vanguard, Fidelity, and Schwab column layouts, and fall back to a manual mapper for anything else.
  2. Fetch prices — for each unique symbol (and VTI), we pull historical daily closes through a price API. Prices are split-adjusted.
  3. Replay — for every buy of $X on day D, we credit you with X / VTI_close(D) shares of VTI. Sells release shares proportionally. Your VTI sleeve is then valued at today's close.
  4. Compare — we compute current portfolio value, what VTI would be worth, and the dollar and percentage alpha.

Notes & caveats

  • This tool uses split-adjusted closing prices. Your actual fills may differ by intraday timing.
  • Dividends are reflected via adjusted close, so reinvested dividends are already baked into both your symbols and VTI.
  • For a buy on a non-trading day (weekend / holiday), we use the next available trading day's close.
  • Options, crypto, mutual funds without ticker symbols, and non-USD-listed securities aren't supported in this version.
  • Your data stays in your browser. CSVs are parsed locally. The only thing sent to our server is the list of symbol names so we can fetch their price history.
